The Connecticut Clean Energy Communities Program is a partnership between the State’s CT Clean Energy Fund and SmartPower to promote and encourage clean and renewable energy. Towns across the state are joining together and taking a stand against fossil fuels and the inefficiency that comes with “dirty” energy sources.

Being concerned with our health and the health of our environment, Avon has joined the 20% by 2010 program sponsored by the State and SmartPower. Avon has committed to buying 20% of its public electric supply from clean, renewable energy sources by 2010, and hopefully an even higher percentage in years to come. It’s an easy way for Avon to help clean up and preserve our environment. And, for every 100 households that switch over their power to clean energy, the Town of Avon will receive a free solar panel. By switching one household over to clean energy, we save the equivalent of burning 380 gallons of gas every year, or by planting 3 acres of trees.

By signing up for the program, you are helping Avon and the world by being more ecologically friendly, and your contribution really does make a difference. Your power will still be the same, and you will still receive your electric bill from CL&P. It only costs a few extra dollars a month.
