The Town of Avon does not provide curbside trash collection or recycling for residents. The following private contractors can be contacted for weekly residential curbside trash collection and recycling service:

Avon recycled 37% of its waste stream in 2008. Our community once again attained the highest percent in our region. Our transfer station and bulky waste (brush) area now sell approximately 1,800 yearly permits and last year processed 1,294 tons of household waste. This waste is shipped to the Connecticut Resource Recovery Authority (CRRA) in Hartford.
Only residents with a valid permit shall have access to the Landfill. SUPERVISION OF ALL CHILDREN BY AN ADULT, PARENT OR GUARDIAN IS REQUIRED WHILE AT THE AVON LANDFILL. No non-residential establishments shall have access.
A permit is required for residents to drop off recyclables at the Landfill. Acceptable items include paper products (newspaper, office paper, magazines, cereal boxes and junk mail), corrugated cardboard, bottles, cans, #1 and #2 plastic, metal, motor oil, antifreeze, auto batteries, ni-cad batteries and leaves.
We also have a Salvation Army clothing bin and a very popular exchange shed for disposal and pick up of usable items. We have a water based ONLY paint drop off facility open between April and October.
All fees offset the cost of transportation and processing of all materials (including recyclables).
